In a music industry where morals and common sense are not so common, a few shine though to show us there's still hope. In lieu of a historical time in American history, change is quickly becoming the theme for music as well as politics. We find more artists reaching back to the 80's and 90's for music and fashion inspiration. L.A rapper, Sacrifice is the throwback change to a materialistic industry that many have been looking for.
At 9, Sacrifice started penning his ideas in the form of a journal. “I never really did the poetry thing, (it was) more like memoirs”. (until now)
After years of writing, he took his first step into the music industry through the turntables. That transformed into production and quickly put him on the road produce his first album, titled “Judas Tale” in 2000 which was never commercially released. In his turbulent years as a young adult, he then released his next project titled “Sybil” in 2006. With the success of the second album, the anticipation among fans was high for his last project “Nexodus:The Art of Escapism” which brought him attention from media monster NBC and local radio.
He's currently working on his 4th project titled “Channel 0” which is unique not only in concept but in content. The album will be packaged with a 77 poem booklet titled “Letters of Sacrifice”, which he says was written to help keep the community encouraged in todays tough economic atmosphere.
Influences for Sacrifice stem heavily from his Jamaican/Torontonian roots, his music took on a life dedicated to bringing classics back to Hip Hop. “My albums are focused on a true mental revolution, we need to escape mentally before change can really happen in our communities.
Sacrifice, also known as the producer Kreeper, decided to take a break on most of the production on “Channel 0” and passed the torch to upcoming producers from all over the country. “I have international production credits on this album from Cushman, J Walk, Flett, GK, Mind & Matta, DJ Noc and Young L”. With an impressive lineup of newcomers and veterans, the album has the right touch of throwback sound to please even the most discriminating vintage Hip-Hop fan.
Sacrifice is also known as a neo-activist, focusing much of his attention to changing the violent environment of his neighborhood in East South Central. “I call myself a neo-activist because I'm not marching and protesting anymore, I've been though that, now its time for action” He started a grass roots organization called the Crusaders, focused on turning inner city kids into productive men and women. “In a time where most inner city fathers are out of the home, we need to stop complaining and start rebuilding the youth now.”

“We are blessed with our own style and I just want to voice mine. I know I have something important to say.”
Emcee Deuce Eclipse is driven by a desire to express himself through music. His goal is to create an open universal sound, which he describes as “Freedom Style” or “Indigenous Noise.” Deuce spent his childhood immersed in music and has been rapping, beatboxing and dancing since he was nine. He draws influence from both his Nicaraguan heritage as well as the culture of Hip-Hop he grew up with. It is Deuce’s creative openness that enables him to create a unique sound that breaks the conventional bonds of culture and style. And though he has far exceeded those conventional bonds, his vision is deeply rooted in both the traditional Nicaraguan music his father would play on his guitar and the rhythmic expressive style of American Hip-Hop. Deuce’s true talent lies in his ability to paint a vivid picture of where we are as a society by weaving compelling personal stories into his rhymes.
“Music has always been with me. As I change, it changes. I learned how to grasp the concept of songwriting by rapping, watching and feeling. Using it to speak of the things I go through or see, things people have taught me or showed me in my life. I just try to express what is around me and inside me. Nurture that piece of myself that is for the world.”
A seasoned vetran of the road, Deuce Eclipse as been featured on countless US and International tours. His show stopping sets with the famed Zion-I are unforgettable. Deuce’s finesse on stage has led him to open for such acts as The Roots, Kool Keith, Blackalicious, Sadat X, Freestyle Fellowship, Del The Funky Homosapien and many others. Let’s not forget the counteless freestyle battle sessions which have left other artists with severly bruised egos.
“Most rappers shouldn't sing, and most singers shouldn't rap. Period. Another fact: Deuce Eclipse is that rare gentleman who can do both. A longtime Bay Area figure who cut his teeth in the Keepers of Tym, the Nicaraguan artist has since gone solo in close affiliation with the Zion-I crew; to that end, he's a killer opening act, fluidly rapping in both English and Spanish before launching into hyper-emotive soul-singer mode for impassioned songs about his family and heritage that can literally bring him to tears in a way that doesn't feel corny or contrived. With intensity like this, he won't lurk in the shadows for too long. ” BAY GUARDIAN 2008
